Disinformation Analysis and Risk Management (DISARM)

The DISARM acronym stands for Disinformation Analysis and Risk Management and is a framework developed by the DISARM Foundation, inspired by the MITRE ATT&CK framework which is used in cybersecurity.

The
DISARM Framework is an open-source tool designed to help organizations identify, analyze, and counteract disinformation. Developed with insights from global cybersecurity practices, it offers a structured approach to understanding and mitigating the impact of false information.

DISARM is an open-source framework designed for describing and understanding the behavioural parts of FIMI/disinformation.

Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs)

The DISARM framework includes the Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) used in FIMI analysis.

Tactics describe operational goals that threat actors are trying to accomplish. (Develop Narratives, Maximise Exposure, etc.)

Techniques are actions describing how they try to accomplish it. (Develop AI-Generated Videos (Deepfakes); Flood Information Space, etc.)

Procedures are the specific combination of techniques across multiple tactics (or stages of an attack) that indicate intent and may be unique for different threat actors.

Applications of the DISARM Framework:

Incident Documentation: Provides a structured method for recording and analyzing disinformation incidents, aiding in the development of targeted countermeasures.

Collaborative Defense: Encourages information sharing among organizations, enhancing collective resilience against disinformation threats.

Training and Education: Serves as a foundational resource for training programs aimed at equipping professionals with the skills to detect and respond to disinformation.

Debunk.org actively integrates the DISARM Framework into its initiatives to counter disinformation. By adopting this framework, Debunk.org enhances its ability to systematically analyze and counteract false narratives, contributing to a more informed and secure information environment.
